Extreme heat and raging bushfires have devastated the parched landscape of Western Australia. With temperatures expected to persist climbing above 40C (104F) over the next few days, a severe heatwave warning has been issued across a large portion of the south-west.

These conditions come after recent fires in another state, which resulted in the destruction of properties and loss of life. Intense heat alerts have also been issued for the coming days in areas within SA and New South Wales, as a system of high pressure moves eastward, bringing intense sunshine to much of the area.
The mix of tinder-dry land and relentless high temperatures presents a volatile scenario for emergency crews.
Worldwide Climatic Events Trigger Chaos
Elsewhere, a metropolis was plunged into blackout recently after strong gusts compromised the urban electrical network, with toppled trees knocking out power lines. The stormy weather also led to significant transport delays at a major airport, where numerous air services were grounded. Severe damage to electrical infrastructure is expected to cause further problems as service providers scramble to restore power to over 1 million inhabitants.
Atypical Fog Blankets Sunny Area
Meanwhile, a region known for its sunny weather and abundant sunlight has experienced one of its grayest and foggiest weeks on recorded history. A specific type of fog, which typically lingers for only a short time, has been remarkably widespread and persistent this year, holding temperatures at a major airport below 8C for over a week – the most prolonged period in over three decades. The extended fog has been driven by exceptional autumn rainfall that left the ground saturated.

Storm Delivers Snow to Holiday Destination
