Three-time award winner Nikola Jokic sustains a 'devastating' knee injury.
Thrice-crowned National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Jokic sustained a "gut-wrenching" injury to his knee as the Nuggets lost 147-123 to the Heat.
Jokic sustained the injury in the latter stages of the opening half in an accidental coming together with fellow Nugget Jones.
Jones stepped on the footwear of the big man, who instantly went down to the court holding his knee.
The 30-year-old, who is leading the NBA this season in boards and dimes, had 21 points and eight assists in the contest prior to incurring the setback.
Jokic is scheduled for an MRI scan on the following day to assess the severity of the issue.
"Immediately, Jokic knew something was wrong," stated Nuggets head coach David Adelman.
"This happens in professional sports. Anyone who is injured, it's tough to see, most notably somebody as talented as Jokic. We will know more on Tuesday."
"We'll move on together. Obviously, right now, I am more concerned primarily about Jokic as a person and the frustration of facing something of that nature."
