The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL side.

Her exit from Bayern was expected since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's forward line. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be building momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen further business:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
