The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.

It might not have been at the same level as sparing holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a second term in office.

“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”

The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The pig, donated by a local firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “six seven” – originating from a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The trend became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently made “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.

A Future Secured

The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.

“It embodies the character of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and based in heritage that bring people together. Annually, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”

Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
