The Latest Relaxed Game Mode Sparks Intense Debates Regarding Bots, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a new game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but features several key adjustments:

  • Each team has only eight human participants, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
  • Activities done by human gamers award full XP, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
  • Only two locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Features like Dogtags, accolades, and career stat updates are disabled.

So essentially, the playlist delivers on its name: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, as it provides additional choices for players looking for different methods to have fun with the game. But, if video games have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, many Battlefield 6 fans are upset.

Community Reactions: Anger to Praise

"People want human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," comments another. Meanwhile, in community forums, one user remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this title," and someone else details all the issues they believe to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," reads a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this title 24/7. Let them find a middle ground," states a different comment. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Criticisms and Community Feedback

All that said, players have valid points to complain about the new mode. Some users have highlighted that it could increase wait times even longer for different playlists due to the sheer number of playlists currently available. Similarly, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to remove XP farming from the mode. So Casual Breakthrough seems like the community meeting them in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. A different user describes this addition as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I had so much fun in the initial release, what prompted them to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?

Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and acting on feedback. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data indicates this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
