The former Liverpool manager says rejoining to lead Liverpool is conceivable.
The German coach, who stepped down from Anfield in 2024, has suggested that rejoining the club is a possibility. The 58-year-old, after a transformative near-decade reign featuring Champions League success and the Premier League crown since 1990, currently occupies roles overseeing worldwide football for Red Bull and in an advisory capacity for the DFL.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
Liverpool won the Premier League in the previous campaign, though countless followers who revere Klopp would welcome the idea that he may eventually return. During an extensive chat, he explained to the podcast host: “I stated I won't manage another team in England. Which implies should it be the Reds...absolutely. In theory, it could happen.”
“I’m 58, that means the choice could be mine in a few years, I don’t know. Must I choose now? If so, I wouldn't return. Luckily, no such pressure exists. I'll wait and observe what lies ahead.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Pressed on what circumstances would have to unfold to tempt his return to the dugout, he revealed he feels no immediate pull toward coming back. “I don’t even know exactly, I love what I do right now,” he commented. “I don’t miss coaching; I avoid standing during downpours through long matches; I don’t miss going to interviews repeatedly each week or constant media duties a week.
“I don’t miss the dressing room in that context, however, dining out alongside the squad enjoying conversation, I appreciate that. We won a lot of games so there was often a very good mood in the building. Remaining with me is Van Dijk's laughter in my ear to illustrate.”
Praise for His Successor
He spoke highly for his successor, acknowledging his role due to the changes that won the league last campaign. They've been defeated a string of losses in all competitions post heavy investment, though he denied the suggestion of it representing a decline.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward like Florian Wirtz, critics will regret if you use the wrong words. He’s an incredible talent. Ekitike, superb talent. They have a strong well-judged squad. No need for concern over the club, they'll bounce back.”
Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward
He shared movingly about the death of Diogo Jota, a 2020 acquisition while in charge, and its impact for the team. The forward lost his life in a vehicle collision alongside his brother recently.
“Can you substitute such an individual? It goes beyond the player himself, his personality mattered. I can’t imagine the dressing room absent his presence. I still cannot speak properly regarding this. A profound tragedy for his teammates as well. Nobody at Liverpool might employ it as an excuse yet it's the reality. Entering the changing area which he filled completely. Handling this emotionally is not easy. Overwhelming.”
