Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Retains Liverpool's Support After PSV Humiliation
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was understandable for doubts to be raised about his position after another heavy defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their ninth defeat in 12 matches, marking the team's worst streak after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing evening at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I have got significant support from management,” Slot stated.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and secure a win naturally but when you're coaching a team and underperforming then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He added, “I am OK with my situation. It is not the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to expand on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They are supportive for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me constantly of the day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal exchanges I perceive the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them after this match so far so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Issues and Squad Response
The manager lamented recurring shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” Jones said.
“It is not good enough. I don't have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He added, “It’s hard because I play for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a phase like this with outcomes so bad.”
He concluded, “However we still have that badge on our shirts. And until that badge is taken away, we will always battle.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad return to the top, show everyone once more what this club is about and the reason it's called the top club in the planet.”
“However currently, things are bad and it needs to change.”
