US performer Finn, who appeared in popular television series including Friends, Seinfeld and "The Middle", has succumbed at the age of 60.

The comedy and improvisation performer succumbed at his home in Los Angeles, California on Monday following treatment for a cancer diagnosis since 2022, as reported by news outlets.

"Pat Finn saw everyone as a friend - solely future friends he didn't know yet," his relatives said in a announcement.

They noted that he had "experienced life to the fullest - with zest and passion".

A Notable Television Career

His debut TV appearance was in the George Wendt Show in 1995, where he appeared as the brother of the main character.

He subsequently landed a regular part on Murphy Brown in the latter half of the 1990s.

He starred as a party host named Joe Mayo in Seinfeld in 1998, playing a party host who would assign tedious tasks to his guests.

Throughout the end of the 90s and start of the 2000s, he made guest appearances on several popular shows, like:

  • "King of Queens"
  • Friends
  • That '70s Show
  • House, M.D.

He was most recognized for his portrayal of Bill Norwood in The Middle, appearing throughout eight series between 2011 and 2018.

His film credits encompass "It's Complicated" and Santa Paws 2: The Santa Pups.

A Life in Improv

Away from his acting parts, Finn was deeply involved in improvisational comedy and served as an educator at the University of Colorado, where he was a faculty member.

He was involved with a six-person improv troupe called "Beer Shark Mice".

"Pat guided, supported, and advised numerous pupils throughout the years and it's nearly impossible to find a person who has anything negative to say about him," his family wrote.

Offering condolences, peer actor Richard Kind noted there was "nobody more kind, gentle, and humorous, down to earth person you could encounter".

"Always positive, assisting others to improve and be funnier. A great dad, a great guy," he shared on social media.

Finn is remembered by his wife Donna, his children, and his mother, father, and brothers/sisters.
