‘Oh How We Will Miss This Man’: The Actress Meg Ryan Shares Heartfelt Tribute to Director Rob Reiner

Meg Ryan has posted a tribute to the late director Rob Reiner, under whose direction she worked in the beloved romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally.

A Heartbreaking Event

Reiner was found dead with his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, at their residence in LA this past weekend.

“We will miss this man so deeply…” Ryan shared on Instagram, accompanying a photo of them together. “We thank you, Rob and Michele, for your belief in true love, fairy tales, and laughter. Your trust in people's goodness and your love for this nation are remembered.”

Charges Filed

Reiner’s son Nick, 32, faces two counts of first-degree murder and was in court today. He’s being held without bail. Sources state that Reiner’s daughter Romy was the one who located her father.

“It is my belief that from this horror, positive change and understanding can emerge,” Ryan went on to write. “Perhaps they would desire a legacy of hope and humanity, leading us toward empathy and tranquility.”

Family Members Issue a Message

Reiner’s surviving children Jake and Romy issued words today. “Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day,” they said. “The tragic, shattering loss of our parents is an experience no one should have to face. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.”

Peers Pay Their Respects

Ryan’s co-star, Billy Crystal, also paid tribute to Reiner with a statement shared yesterday together with remarks by Larry David, Martin Short and Albert Brooks.

“His skill for comedy was unmatched, his ear for dialogue perfect, and his dramatic precision was sheer elegance,” the tribute noted. “He adored his actors. He elevated his writers. Freedom was his key offering. He listened to ideas and included you in the creative journey. Collaborators felt like a unified team. Being guided by him was an honor, yet just one facet of his impact.”

An Enduring Filmography

When Harry Met Sally was a critical and commercial success in 1989, earning over $93 million globally and securing Nora Ephron an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.

Rob Reiner first encountered Michele Singer Reiner while making When Harry Met Sally. The pair were connected through Barry Sonnenfeld, a director and friend.

Reiner’s celebrated filmography also included classics such as Misery, Stand by Me and The Princess Bride. The director and his wife were together in marriage for 36 years.
