Democrats Condemn Trump After He Claims They Should Face Execution

Democratic officials expressed anger after Donald Trump charged a contingent of Democratic legislators of being "betrayers" and stated they should be arrested and penalized "with execution" following their posting of a contentious video.

The Content That Provoked the Dispute

The video footage, released on earlier this week, showcases six Democratic elected officials who formerly worked in defense or intelligence roles.

"Similar to us, you all made an oath to protect and defend this constitution," the representatives affirmed in the short video. "At present, the risks to our democratic foundation don't only come from overseas, but from domestically. Our regulations are clear, you can decline illegal orders, you can reject illegal orders, you must reject improper directives. No one has to execute orders that break the statutes or our national charter."

Donald Trump's Furious Reaction

The recorded statement appeared to provoke a furious reply from the previous commander-in-chief.

On Thursday morning, Trump posted on Truth Social: "It's called SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these betrayers to our Nation should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In a separate post, he wrote: "This represents really concerning, and Harmful to our Nation. Their comments cannot be enabled to persist. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a additional post, he added: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, subject to punishment by DEATH!" He also reposted a statement that stated: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Opposition Representatives Respond

Following Trump's statements on that day, Democratic leadership published a unified announcement denouncing the statements.

"Violent politics has no role in this nation," they stated. "Congress members who appeared in the video all served our United States with tremendous national pride and excellence. We strongly condemn Donald Trump's disgusting and dangerous calls for execution against elected officials, and urge House Republicans to forcefully do the same."

The party representatives also mentioned that they had been in touch with protective services "to guarantee the security of these members and their families."

"Donald Trump must without delay delete these extreme online messages and retract his violent discourse before he causes harm," the declaration added.

Officials' Firm Answer

The officials who participated in the video also issued a declaration.

"We are former service members and defense specialists who value this country and swore an pledge to defend and support the founding document of the United States," they declared. "That oath lasts a lifetime, and we intend to honor it. No intimidation, pressure, or incitement will stop us from that important duty."

"The significant point is that the former president considers it punishable by death for us to reiterate the legal requirements," they stated. "Our service members should understand that we have their support as they execute their vow to the national charter and obligation to follow only legal commands. It is not only the correct thing to do, but also our responsibility."

They stated: "All citizens must unite and condemn the president's requests for our murder and ideological conflict. This is a period for moral clarity."

More Political Reactions

The Democratic Senate minority leader also censured Trump's comments and posted on social media: "Let's be crystal clear: the former president is demanding the execution of government members."

He continued: "This constitutes an clear THREAT. Each congressional member, each house member, all citizens – irrespective of political affiliation – should censure this without delay and unconditionally."

The Conservative official defended Trump's assertion that the Democrats had engaged in "rebellion", characterizing the video as "extremely improper", commenting: "This constitutes very dangerous, you have leading members of the legislature telling military personnel to disobey orders, I think that's historic in US history."

The GOP official also reportedly informed the press that in what he reviewed of Trump's posts, Trump was "defining the offense of sedition" but that "lawyers have to parse the language and decide all that."

White House Response

During a White House press conference on later that day, when inquired by a reporter, "Does the president want to put to death elected officials?", the administration spokesperson answered: "No."

"Let's be clear about what the president is reacting to," the spokesperson stated. "There are sitting members of the US Congress who conspired to organize a recorded statement to personnel of the US military, to serving soldiers urging them to ignore the commander in chief's proper directives."

She stated: "The purity of our defense system rests on the chain of command, and if that system is violated, it can lead to casualties, it can cause disorder, and precisely what these members of Congress ... are essentially promoting."
