American Military Executes Lethal Strike in Eastern Pacific, Leading to Four Fatalities
As stated by a senior military spokesperson, the American armed forces carried out a lethal kinetic engagement on a vessel in the eastern Pacific, resulting in the deaths of four people.
“A US joint task force carried out a lethal kinetic strike on a craft operated by a terrorist group in international waters. Intelligence confirmed the vessel was transiting along a established narco-trafficking route and was involved in illicit drug transport. A total of four male narco-terrorists were eliminated, and no US military forces were harmed.”
Context and Recent Strikes
This announcement comes a day after a declaration regarding a naval blockade of all targeted oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela. That statement on social media, the US president accused Venezuela of using oil profits to fund drug trafficking and criminal activities, vowing to increase the military buildup.
Just on the previous day, the Pentagon stated it had carried out strikes on three boats it accused of trafficking drugs in the Pacific, leading to the deaths of eight people. Beginning on 2 September, more than 20 military engagements have resulted in the deaths of at least 99 individuals, most off the coast of Venezuela.
Government Justifies Actions Amidst Scrutiny
The administration has faced increasing demands to make public video of a 2 September vessel attack. But, officials have refused to do so. The administration has supported its efforts as a successful operation, saying it has stopped drugs from entering US shores and has dismissed concerns that it is exceeding the bounds of legal military action.
Although the administration has stated the operation is about halting drugs destined for the US, comments from a top official appeared to suggest a broader geopolitical aim. In a recently published interview, the chief of staff remarked the president “aims to keep on destroying vessels until the Venezuelan president cries uncle.”
This indicates the series of strikes may be linked to a strategy to remove Venezuela's sitting government.
